The SPCA Centre in Dunedin is the oldest SPCA in New Zealand, established in 1872. Our centre is well supported by volunteers who we are indebted to for their commitment and service. The volunteers and our animal attendant team care for around 2,000 animals each year that come through our centre.

SPCA's Palmerston North Centre has had a well needed make-over recently to enhance the facilities for the animals in our care. We rehome hundreds of animals each year so encourage people to come to see us if they are choosing to welcome a new animal into their family.

The worker (sorry I forgot your name! Maybe Amy? Eek! Had an accent anyway…) was lovely from the phone call to actually coming in and showing me around. I adopted Jasper (who has now been renamed Kevin) and he’s doing really well. Settled in well, definitely not shy, and loves cuddles. He’s a great edition to the home. Thank you!

SPCA Timaru Centre
I live at a holiday park in timaru and we have had a stray cat issue for a while now. I have been informed that the owners of the park have reached out to the spca to help get the cats out of the camp safely as they are causing problems with the animals who live at the camp, and the spca has refused to help due to stray cat issues (confusing because the issues we need help with are the ones theyre saying they need to do but they aren't actually doing). Only today my cat was attacked by one of the strays and he cannot open one of his eyes. We adopted our cat from the spca and every time he has gone back there he has come home traumatized, which gives me concerns of what happens while he's there.
