Mabel’s
Mabel’s is everything I want a restaurant to be. The food is healthy, different, and incredibly tasty. The service is friendly, engaging, and entertaining. The ambience has a great vibe, without too much noise, and a bright tidy decor. The cocktails are utterly sensational too. While the main reason to go there is to experience the Burmese food, I would genuinely also pop in just for a drink too. I can’t wait to go back and experience other items on the menu.

Just go. What are you waiting for? The food and service were both excellent. It started with the waiting staff giving an excellent walkthrough of the menu and good advice on the quantity needed for four adults. The food arrived quickly as promised and all at once (pretty much) also as promised. We had (not all shown) the tea leaf salad, smashed samosa salads, the doughnuts, two curries - pork and chicken and the tofu. We went back for the noodle salad before desert. All were delicious as were the desserts - we had all of them between us. You should too.

Absolutely stunning!! Food was sensational and service was too notch. We came here the other day and decided to order pretty much one of everything on the menu excluding dishes that didn’t suit allergies. The lovely waitress explained the entire menu for us and made sure we had no other questions. I walked out thinking… if salads tasted this good all the time we’ll be the healthiest people around. Great stuff team!

God quality of food. The flavor is very exotic and interesting! Tea salad and papaya salad were my favorite. Only one downside is that their portion was very small considering the price. Also, the service was very slow because we ordered 10 dishes and after first salad arrival we waited almost 30 minutes for the next one. This was kinda unreasonable for me. Otherwise, good service.

Really unique and subtle flavours. The tea salad was delicious with a deep, umami flavour throughout due to the fermented tea-leaves. The fermentation renders the tea-leaves almost a fishiness that was surprisingly pleasant. The various nuts and legumes gave it a freshness and texture that was varied. The beef curry was very mild and the meat amazingly tender. Grilled eggplant likely had the fermented tea-leaves mixed through it and was savoury and delicious.

Two of us had dinner quite early before a show so the restaurant was quiet in the big space. We were made very welcome and looked after by a great Burmese waiter. We shared pork belly curry and the traditional Burmese mohinga which was a very tasty fish based noodle soup. We started with a huge bowl of garlic crackers that we enjoyed though the main dishes came out in very short time. Both dishes were terrific. A thoroughly enjoyable meal with a good drinks menu as well.

So glad we found this restaurant during our trip to Wellington. Having visited and loved Myanmar we were super keen to try it. The food was tasty and beautifully served. Staff went the extra mile to ensure we understood the menu and that everything was GF. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the room was a bit cold and the music a wee bit loud.We will be back next time.

I had heard good things about Mabel's and I can confirm they're 100% true. We had a relaxing drink in the bar area before dinner. Great service, the menu was well explained, drinks topped up and friendly staff made us really welcomed.I feasted on wild tahr curry, green tea leaves salad, roti and coconut rice. The mountain goat (wild tahr) was perfectly fork-tender and fell apart, mild curry with very little heat and bangs of flavour. The fried curry leaves and crunchy yellow split peas added great texture.Green tea leaves salad had crispy dried shrimp and chilli flakes so it popped a different combo of heat, salt & umami bombs with each mouthful.

Plenty of Asian restaurants have delicious food but what is great about Mabel’s is that you also get stylish decor, tasteful plates, good playlists and most surprisingly, top notch cocktails! So many new and delicious flavours but also BFC (Burmese fried chicken) if you’re in a plain food mood. The pork pickle curry and pickled tea leaf salad are like nothing I’ve ever tasted.Mmm mmm
